Google AI Shopping 2026: Get Your Store Ready for AI Sales

Google now lets shoppers buy inside AI Mode and Gemini. Here's what changed in 2026 and 7 practical steps to get your Shopify or WooCommerce store ready.

Google AI Shopping 2026: Get Your Store Ready for AI Sales

Your customers are starting to shop inside Google's AI, not just on your website. They ask Google what to buy, compare options in a chat, and in some cases pay right there.

If you run a Shopify or WooCommerce store, here's what that means for you and what to do about it.

What Is Google AI Shopping?

Google AI Shopping is how Google now helps people buy products inside AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app.

Instead of showing ten blue links, Google's AI understands the request, picks matching products, and explains why each one fits. A shopper can type "waterproof hiking boots under $150" and get a short, ready-to-buy list.

The technology that connects Google's AI to online stores is called the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). Think of it as a common language that lets AI read your products, build a cart, and start checkout.

What Changed in September 2026

Two updates turned AI Shopping from an experiment into a real sales channel:

  • Cart transfer. Shoppers can build a cart on Google, then finish payment on your own website with the cart already filled.
  • Native checkout for Shopify. Eligible US Shopify stores were switched on automatically, so shoppers can pay inside AI Mode and Gemini without visiting the store.

The short version: Google can now send you a buyer who is ready to pay, or take the payment for you.

What This Means for Your Store

If you use Shopify, you're closest to this change. Native checkout may already be on for US stores. You can turn it off under Sales channels > Agentic in your Shopify admin. Keep in mind that Google Analytics doesn't track these AI checkout sales, and bundles or subscriptions aren't supported yet.

If you use WooCommerce, there's no built-in support yet. Joining in needs a plugin or custom integration. It takes more setup, but you keep full control over your checkout.

Either way, one thing matters most: Google's AI can only recommend products it clearly understands.

7 Ways to Get Your Store Ready

  1. Clean up your Google Merchant Center feed. Products with errors or warnings are unlikely to show up. Fix them first.
  2. Write clear product titles. "Blue Shirt" says little. "Men's Slim-Fit Cotton Oxford Shirt, Navy" says everything a shopper searches for.
  3. Answer common questions in descriptions. Size, material, care, who it's for. AI uses these details to match products to questions.
  4. Add product schema markup. It tells Google your price, stock, ratings and shipping in a format machines can read.
  5. Keep price and stock in sync. If AI recommends a product that's sold out, you lose the sale and the trust.
  6. Make mobile checkout fast. Shoppers coming from AI are ready to buy. Don't lose them to a slow page or a long form.
  7. Fix your sales tracking. Set up tracking that captures AI channel sales, so your reports show the real picture.

Is Google AI Shopping Available in Pakistan?

Not yet. AI checkout and cart transfer are live only in the US for now. Australia and Canada are expected next year, with the UK after that. There's no date for Pakistan.

But the preparation steps above help you today. Clean product data and schema also improve your rankings in regular Google Search and AI Overviews. And if you sell to the US, UK, Canada or Australia, you'll be ready the day these features reach your buyers.

Quick Answers

Do I have to pay Google to appear in AI Shopping?

No. Free product listings from Merchant Center can appear. Ads are optional.

Will AI checkout reduce my website traffic?

It can. Cart transfer helps, because the final payment happens on your own site.

Can WooCommerce stores join?

Yes, through a plugin or custom integration, since there's no native support yet.

Get Your Store Ready for AI Shopping

AI Shopping is still early, which makes this the best time to prepare. Stores with clean product data and a smooth checkout will be the first ones Google's AI recommends.

Devintek helps Shopify and WooCommerce businesses in Pakistan and worldwide with product feed cleanup, schema setup, checkout optimization and AI shopping integration.
